Classicism and Malleability: A Review of the JCE Jazz Dance Project, October 2019
The JCE Jazz Dance Project returned once again this October, as dancers and choreographers came together to showcase jazz dance in all its forms. The evening showcased both jazz dance’s classicism and malleability, as choreographers embodied jazz’s past while using its language to create styles all their own.
A Signature Experience in Jazz Dance for Quinnipiac Students
On October 12th, Melissa A. Kaplan, Interim Director of the Honors Program at Quinnipiac University, and 18 Honors Program students attended a jazz dance class and lecture taught by JCE Artistic Director Marian Hyun, who was assisted by Junior Board Member Nicole Padilla. The class was part of a mini course known as “A Signature Experience in Jazz Dance,” one of several Signature Experience courses offered by Quinnipiac University to its Honor Program students. The students were mostly beginners with only a few of them having previous dance experience.

Another wonderful evening of Jazz dance performances graced the stage at Peridance at the October performance of The JCE Jazz Dance Project. For this sold out evening, artistic directors Marian Hyun and Merete Muenter took a different approach with the production process, allowing alum choreographers the opportunity to debut premiere pieces.

Creating Opportunities to Dance: An Interview with Spencer Pond
On September 22nd Jazz Choreography Enterprises hosted an open rehearsal featuring choreographer Spencer Pond. Audience members were able to watch Pond rehearse his piece “Good Judys” and explain some of his thought process as a choreographer.
